13A - READING REFLECTION NO.1
Book
Ray Kroc's "Grinding it out: The making of McDonald's"
What caught my eye at first is how Ray was able to take one restaurant, to a worldwide scale known almost anywhere in the wall. And just by simply offering burger and fries. I also was surprised all the steps he took in order to turn McDonalds into a sensation in the states, and now having arguably the best food chain in the world.
What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?
I admire the most of Ray his persistence and drive in order to turn a succesful restaurant locally to a nationwide level. His determination was most definitely what I admired the most. Also i admired how when he ran into obstacles such as bumps in building a new restaurant in ceratin parts of the country, he always took "no's" and worked on them to make them into yes, so that stood out a lot.
What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
RRay got there with a lot of tough work and dedication, but his drive and motivation eventually took him to disrespect some people, and for me respect is one of the most imporant values I look on people. I would consider Ray someone greedy and egocentric, that he only cares about his wellbeing and nothing else.
Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Yes, Kroc encountered several obstacles when trying to take McDonalds to the top but he kept his focus 100%, he was able to be stable and trying to manage the financial aspecr of the company which was the toughesst hurdle for him.
What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
Ray Kroc showed a lot of persistence and patience throughout his journey. His tolerance levels were quite high so it made him be flexible when encountering rough waters.
Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
What was confusing was learning exactly how Ray was able to create so much capital raise for his expansion in little time, I wish he would of explained that more thoroughly.
If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
Looking where McDonalds is now at a global market, would you have changed something from your journey?
What would you suggest to young entrepreneurs that want to reach a dream like once you did?
What do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I Believe he excelled in achieving what he wanted, hes determination and grind was relentless that most relatate to working hard. He pushed his limits until the goals where reached, so I believe and agree with him relentless effort with everything, try your best if it it does not work out, do not give up and continue grinding, get up and try your best.
Mario, thank you for sharing your in-depth reflection on Ray Kroc’s autobiography. I read The Wright Brothers, and I find it fascinating how similar all these successful entrepreneurs are, regardless of era or industry. The Wright Brothers were also persistent, tenacious, dedicated and hard workers. Like Kroc, they encountered many obstacles along the way and were able to successfully overcome them
ReplyDeleteHi Mario
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your blog. I picked the Wright brothers and found the book appealing as well, I think you've answered all the questions in great details, it showed that you've spent the time reading the book also analyzed the character and the actions he has made. After reading most of the peers’ blog, I found out that all the entrepreneur has something in common, which are their patience and their persistence, I think these are the key to success
