27A – READING REFLECTION NO. 3
Book: Steve Jobs
Author: Walter Isaacson
What surprised me the most:
The book was a great read, I fully recommend it to everyone. While there are many topics covered in the book, there is one subject that stood out to me a lot. This was the attitude of Steve with the people surrounding him. Many of us knew Jobs as the warm cool guy from the Apple Keynote events, but his authoritarian leadership style, mixed with a bit of arrogance was surprising to read. I also noticed that he was a little bit stubborn with new ideas, and that is surprising as he is one of the most famous entrepreneurs in the last century.
What I admired the most:
What I admired the most about Stev Jobs, was how he was able to build a huge "empire" with Apple. The fact that he was able to modernize and bring incredible technology to our lifes is truly amazing. He definitely was a pioneer, and left a sound legacy with those behind him at Apple.
Adversity and Failure:
Steve Jobs like many other entrepreneurs had a difficult time. He was always battling with his health, new products, criticism, with Apple and with his personal relationships. One big example was how the board of his own company decided to kick him out because of the issues that the first Mac encountered. Also, while he was sick he kept working like nothing had happened and that was very admiring.
Competencies:
Stev Jobs has several qualities. He had the great skill of creating something really sophisticated and make it look simple, elegant and true piece of art. He also showed a lot of courage in the beinning to pursue something new that would change the industry tremendously. He was also visionary as he always had an idea in mind for the future and knew where things where heading to.
Confusion:
What? My conffusion is on how Stev Jobs had a strange relationship with his business partner, John Sculley, on how they were able to agree over things, when they had so many different issues going on at that time.
When? The time when Steve was fired from his own company and the appointance of John as the the new head of Apple.
Why? Steve had issues agreeing with his business partner.
Questions:
1- Why did you decide to return to Apple after so much happened?
2- Why made you have that fire of not only creating a new industryy but truly changing the world?

Hi Mario, I read Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. Like Jobs, Musk is a difficult man to work with. I think both of them lack the emotional intelligence we expect to see in leaders of their caliber. Character aside, Jobs was certainly an innovator and brilliant, just like Musk, and I celebrate their accomplishments. I guess we don’t have to like them to admire them.
ReplyDeleteMario,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your post! I am glad you enjoyed the book, I will definitely will take it into consideration reading it! It was interesting to see the comparison between Steve Jobs and other entrepreneurs. I was intrigued to learn more about Steve Jobs and his partner is business. Next time, go back and check for grammatical errors. Steve Job’s name was spelled wrong a few times.
