8A - SOLVING THE PROBLEM
Opportunity:
I see a huge opportunity because there is an important a huge market that is not satisfied. Either people that are deal hunters like me and search for good deals to travel or professionals or people who rather spend that extra money and travel not necessarily more luxurious but have a more pleasant and comfortable flight. As we saw people that are interested right now in traveling are aware of this issue, yet nobody has really stepped up to do something about it. Obviously, this idea is not something I am committed to 100% but I do see an opportunity for a market that is hot having their wishes fulfilled.
Service to be offered:
My implementation would be to create an airline that competes with the current airlines that travel to South America. I am not sure now after the interviews if the low-cost or high-end airline is a better idea, this would have to go under extensive research in order to find which one would become more successful. But I pretend to offer services of routes that are not being offered at the moment. For example; Washington D.C., Boston, Charlotte, Las Vegas would be great cities that start offering more routes to South America, also include cities like Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Rosario, Cordova, Cuzco, Calama, Concepcion. These are cities being ignored in the airline market and could be used as a form of penetration, we would just have to do extensive research to see that this is a viable solution.

I completely agree with you that South America needs more flight options. Unfortunately, yield management is the pricing strategy used by airlines. So, if there are not many options out there, as is the case in South America, fares increase much quicker and higher than in other destinations which makes things even worse for travelers. Setting up a new airline business, however, is quite a challenge. It would require significant upfront costs and human capital.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you that the market for South American flights is huge especially here in the state of Florida. We have many diverse people in this state especially from countries in South America, people who want to visit their families every so often and are not able to easily because of the high prices. I think that your opportunity will be well received especially in the Hispanic communities around Florida.
ReplyDeleteHi Mario,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great opportunity to solve the expensive airfare prices. I think a lot of cities aren't visited by airlines outside of the country. If there is an American airline that focuses only on South America it could help compete with the prices of other airlines. I think you have a great idea and hopefully it can be implemented soon. Maybe targeting larger cities first and eventually traveling to the smaller cities will be a way to start, primarily because the demand for the smaller cities isn't as high and it could be riskier and cost effective.
