15A – FIGURING OUT BUYER BEHAVIOR NO. 2

For this assignment I decided to interview 3 students at the University of Florida, all 3 share common things, for example, all 3 students have studied abroad during their tenure at UF. All of them enjoy traveling and would consider themselves avid travelers and some of the backpackers. With the difference of my previous interviews now this time I chose 3 American students that may or may have no interest in traveling to South and Central America.

From the first interview, I interviewed an American girl who studied abroad in Australia! She told us many ways she booked her travels while studying abroad and also provided with some great tips on how to find cheap tickets to Australia and New Zealand from the United States. For her, she values two things the price of the air ticket, and the location expenses. For example she said you can travel cheaply to the Cayman Islands, but once on the islands, it becomes very expensive to be there; lodging, eating, shopping, and extracurricular activities.

For the second interview, I interviewed an American kid who studied abroad in Madrid! He told us great stories from his travels within Spain and Europe and also a great insight into European ultra-low-cost airline, Ryanair. He said inside Spain he preferred to travel with high-speed trains or buses because they were sometimes cheaper sometimes more, but he said that reaching the bus or train terminal was quicker than reaching the Madrid airport. He mentioned to us he values frequency of travel that is that there are multiple trips in one day to the same destination allowing it to be flexible at what time to travel. He told us that Ryanair, an Irish airline works great in Europe and it is normal for people to fly on these ultra-low-cost airlines.

In the third interview, I interviewed an American girl who studied abroad in Lima! Yes! We finally have now some background of someone that studied abroad in South America and can tell us more about traveling inside South America. She told us that while there, you have options of traveling by air, or with buses, there is a lack of train system in Peru she mentioned. She did say you must be careful because there are some "Pirate Buses", this is illegal bus services not approved by the government thus they are unregulated. Therefore she mentioned how safety was her main priority when traveling in South America, she wanted to have a reputable company transport her from origin to destination.

Conclusion:
Depending on the continent you are in people have different wants and needs. In this case, we can see how in the third interview the study abroad student in Peru, was mainly concerned about the safeties of the company transporting her, while for example the study abroad student in Sydney, said that she chose travel locations depending on whether the city or country was cheap to visit or not. In the case of the study abroad student in Madrid, he wanted more comfort and flexibility when it came down to travel schedules. Now we have a lot of valuable feedback we can work on for the continuing project.

  1. Hi Mario,
The selection of people that you chose to use to conduct your interviews was great. It really did cover a lot of different travel backgrounds which I think would be the most beneficial to learn about as you can take bits and pieces from everyone and have a solid picture in front of you. I think they gave very good insight for your project and I think this assignment will definitely help you in your future.
