30A – FINAL REFLECTION

Image
My posts: Reading the previous posts of this year, I must say they are some flaws and mistakes but they are some that really helped me to bring this project out alive. I thought I knew a lot more about the topic, but I did not a lot of people gave a lot of valuable information, especially those who work in the airline industry. My experiences: The experience that I take the most with me are the elevator pitches. I believe that the elevator pitches have helped me grow and gather my thoughts in a great timely fashion. It also helped to be more concise and creative with my speeches. Another post I liked, was what's your secret sauce. Having to analyze myself and see what are the good things I am good at was challeging, but helpful to see my skills retrospectively. Entreprenurial mindset: I think that this class has helped me tremendously in order to view things with a more entreprenurial mindset. I was able to analyze and see things in a different way. I wouldn't call my...

29A – VENTURE CONCEPT NO. 2

Image
Venture: Blankenese Airlines Opportunity: I see an opportunity in opening a new airline that is top in the airline industry. We want to serve Latin American cities that are often ignored. We want to offer a good service where the comfort of our clients and travelers is the most important feature. We want to provide our customers with a good array of inflight entertainment, new and top of the line aircraft, high-quality food and service, hassle-free booking and wiggle room for luggage and carry on. Innovation: We see that people are becoming more unhappy with the flying and traveling experience. We want to restore this concept by providing something never offered before. It seems now that traveling is more complicated than ever when in reality it should be a lot more simple, exactly how it was years ago. We will make a profit without the airline mainly due to the use of airplanes that are extremely self-sufficient and the operating costs are not too much. We will also charge mo...

28A – YOUR EXIT STRATEGY

My Exit Strategy: I plan for Blanekenese Airlines to grow and eventually be a threat to one of the big airlines, and just hopefully be bought out by them. Then that way I have a lot of capital and create a new business idea. I mean this is not a must, maybe when it is at a point of sale I might be insecure of selling since it is a big decision in my life. Anyways I hope either of this happen as I know I had made it and achieved something amazing. Why: I think this exit is a smooth one, I will have lots of money for new business ideas I can invest in. I will also have more free time to enjoy doing the things I do. I expect to also enjoy life, as woking can get very stressing at time. I would like to be there for my family if I can, and by having the monetary means it would be an amazing achivement to help out my family members. How? No, acutally until this point I had not reallt thought of an exit idea. I have been only thinking of doing the entrepreneurship idea and reaching a g...

27A – READING REFLECTION NO. 3

Book: Steve Jobs Author: Walter Isaacson What surprised me the most: The book was a great read, I fully recommend it to everyone. While there are many topics covered in the book, there is one subject that stood out to me a lot. This was the attitude of Steve with the people surrounding him. Many of us knew Jobs as the warm cool guy from the Apple Keynote events, but his authoritarian leadership style, mixed with a bit of arrogance was surprising to read. I also noticed that he was a little bit stubborn with new ideas, and that is surprising as he is one of the most famous entrepreneurs in the last century. What I admired the most: What I admired the most about Stev Jobs, was how he was able to build a huge "empire" with Apple. The fact that he was able to modernize and bring incredible technology to our lifes is truly amazing. He definitely was a pioneer, and left a sound legacy with those behind him at Apple. Adversity and Failure: Steve Jobs like many other entrep...

26A – CELEBRATING FAILURE

The time I failed: Last semester was a really tough semester emtionally. I was taking Business Finance and I did not perform to my liking in the class, I procrastinated a lot. My exam grades really reflected what I had been studying. Yes, the class is tough but you must put hours of studying but I had issues going on at home that kept me from being able to focus fully on the course. Therefore I had to drop the class and it hurt a lot, because it is the first class I ever drop and I was dissapointed with myself. What I learned from it: I learned that I have to study more and not procastinate, I also learned the lesson financially as I had to retake and pay for the class a second time. I also learned that I have many tools here at UF and friends that can help me out during tough times emotionally. Reflection: Now as I am taking business finance again, I was able to weed out all the bad stuff and focus fully on the class. Now I am in good standing in the class with a big chance of ...

25A – What’s Next?

Existing Market: The existing market is current travelers that use airlines to travel to South America and destinations nearby. This includes leisure travelers that wish to explore South America or Latin Americans that wish to visit and tour the country. Interview #1: Female Traveler 26 years old I believe the idea of Blankenese airlines is an overall good idea but it is also a premature business concept, more thought and planning must go on in order for it to make it work. I believe that you can create a loyal customer base as there clearly is a lot of unsatisfied people now. Interview #2: Male Traveler 31 years old I like the idea but I have a hard time imagining that the concept will work in the long term. Also, I see that the huge upfront cost of investment is so large that might be an issue when trying to get people behind this business idea and invest in it. Interview #3: Male Traveler 55 years old The airline industry is extremely difficult and predatory. I would have...

23A – YOUR VENTURE’S UNFAIR ADVANTAGE SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT

10 Resources 1) Cultural Experiences: Having lived in 3 different countries (Chile, Germany, and the United States) has made me gain tremendous international exposure. Also having the opportunity to live my own in Germany makes me grow a lot as an individual who knows what it is to live in a country that they don't speak your language and push you to the limits in every instance. 2) Trilingual: Being able to speak 3 languages is a resource I will have forever in which they can help me later down to the road. In this case, being able to speak Spanish and understand Portuguese are the key languages spoken in the countries where Blankenese Airlines would want to operate. 3) Monetary: Due to my father's loss I received some of his estate money and this can help me finance part initially my venture. Even though it is not a huge lump of money, money still has to be borrowed it is a little extra help I have. 4) Tolerance: I believe that I am a person that manages cr...

As I did not do the previous speech I have nothing in what to reflect back on.

21A – READING REFLECTION NO. 2

Book: "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" Author: Carol Dweck 1) The theme of the book? The book talks about a lot of subjects but mainly the book conveys the idea that when people do something the results can come with different results which can be good or bad, that all depends on how we examine the different skills that lead to success. She mentions a lot of examples of success and failure throughout the book. 2) Connecting it to ENT3003? The book mentions topics discussed in class, as of in the class we learn from our mistakes and in the book she argues of picking up this errors and fix them to better the future outcome. We must always pursue to correct any flaws we have previously made in order to get a more perfect scenario in the future. The other thing that I picked up and also Dr. Pryor emphasizes is how we need to seek flaws in our system or world in order to create a better world, seize the opportunity we see in other words. 3) Exercise for the cl...

20A – GROWING YOUR SOCIAL CAPITAL

Domain Expert: Santiago M. -Santiago is a Colombian born student who studied Aviation Engineering in the United States. -Santiago is a friend I met in High school and have maintained a good healthy friendship throughout the years. For this assignment we texted back an forth. -Santiago provided me key insisght on how new airlines are being built and how they are a lot more cost efficient of what they used to be. His degree and his job at a well known airplane manufacturer makes him extremely qualified to feed me with this valuable information. - Bringing Santiago on board would be incredible as he is extremely knowledgeable of the airline industry. Market Expert: Annonymous as the person wished his name was not used -Annon is an american that has worked for 40 years with the latinamerican market. - I met annon in a networking event in south florida, and we connected as he had lived and worked many years in my home country of Chile. 19A - IDEA NAPKIN NO.2

I s kipped the last couple of assignments so I was not able to gather new information about myself. 1) Me: I have not changed I'm still the same: Mario Paredes was born in Chile in 1995. After moving to the US at age 12, from Chile he has grown a lot and learned a lot. He lived one year in Germany, where he learned the German language. He now speaks fluently three languages: Spanish, English, and German. Other than that, his skills are pretty much the same as an average University of Florida student. He is very good at finding good deals and purchasing good at a low price. He has had the opportunity to travel a lot on his own, where it has to lead him to grow a lot as a person, throughout different experiences abroad. He does not enjoy being in his comfort zone as he feels sometimes that drags him down so he needs to be constantly looking for new upcoming challenges. By having traveled so much, and speaking different languages he has been able to detect flaws in international tr...

15A – FIGURING OUT BUYER BEHAVIOR NO. 2

For this assignment I decided to interview 3 students at the University of Florida, all 3 share common things, for example, all 3 students have studied abroad during their tenure at UF. All of them enjoy traveling and would consider themselves avid travelers and some of the backpackers. With the difference of my previous interviews now this time I chose 3 American students that may or may have no interest in traveling to South and Central America. From the first interview, I interviewed an American girl who studied abroad in Australia! She told us many ways she booked her travels while studying abroad and also provided with some great tips on how to find cheap tickets to Australia and New Zealand from the United States. For her, she values two things the price of the air ticket, and the location expenses. For example she said you can travel cheaply to the Cayman Islands, but once on the islands, it becomes very expensive to be there; lodging, eating, shopping, and extracurri...

14A – HALFWAY REFLECTION

Image
1) Definitely get an early start in projects, see them at the beginning of the week and plan out how long the blog posts will take. Also by having read th directions and guidelines, you will be able to come up with ideas before you write the post. Also pay attention to Dr. Pryor's video announcements as they help you narrow down your thought process when writing the blog posts. 2) The last post I wrote was definitely a tough one, hahving to read a book made me almost want to quit, but in reality I really need a good grade in this class because my GPA suffered "damages" in the last semester so I do not want to lower it, I want o raise it back up. Just do the posts, take your time, and enjoy the ride it helps you think anatically and analyze multiple situations with more entreprenurial eyes. Having to do so many interviews has definitely helped too see that it is good to get new point of views when approaching a new project. 3) 1- Attend the workshop for the extra cred...

13A - READING REFLECTION NO.1

Book Ray Kroc's "Grinding it out: The making of McDonald's" What surprised you the most? What caught my eye at first is how Ray was able to take one restaurant, to a worldwide scale known almost anywhere in the wall. And just by simply offering burger and fries. I also was surprised all the steps he took in order to turn McDonalds into a sensation in the states, and now having arguably the best food chain in the world. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admire the most of Ray his persistence and drive in order to turn a succesful restaurant locally to a nationwide level. His determination was most definitely what I admired the most. Also i admired how when he ran into obstacles such as bumps in building a new restaurant in ceratin parts of the country, he always took "no's" and worked on them to make them into yes, so that stood out a lot. What about the entrepreneur did you  least  admire? R Ray got there with a lot of to...

12A – FIGURING OUT BUYER BEHAVIOR NO. 1

Segment: The segment for my project was interviewing people that were aware of the airline industry, or that they travel frequently. These interviews will help me get more of a clear picture of what is it that people want and see if people also see a lack of the quality of the service provided by other competing airlines. I will also ask if they see this as a viable way of creating a profitable startup. Interviews: 1)     I interviewed 31-year-old Hispanic male, that works with an international company. His take on the subject was very interesting, as his company actually is related to ships, yachts, boats and cruise ships. So, he is very aware of international transportation, He agreed that there is a lack of routes being offered, he also did agree that the quality of service provided has declined sharply in the last couple of years. However, he has particularly skeptical in the sense that airlines are not very profitable. He told me that before you proceed with ...

9A - TESTING THE HYPOTHESIS, PART 2

The "Who": After interviewing more people about this subject. I found out there are many people who are not particularly interested in international travel. I found that many of those who I interviewed did not possess a passport, or if they did it was possibly expired. I also noticed many people were not too motivated to travel in case they needed to purchase or go through a visa process application to go to that country, or paying a reciprocity fee. I also found that there are particular persons that are terrified of getting into an airplane, especially when the route crossed through oceans or large seas. The "What": This is the most challenging part of the assignment, So far I have not been able to measure correct data in what is that people want. A strong luxurious airline that offers quality flight, broad options in terms of a cabin and carry-on luggage, newer aircraft, comfortable lounge areas, and top of the line food and entertainment services onboard. The...

8A - SOLVING THE PROBLEM

Opportunity: I see a huge opportunity because there is an important a huge market that is not satisfied. Either people that are deal hunters like me and search for good deals to travel or professionals or people who rather spend that extra money and travel not necessarily more luxurious but have a more pleasant and comfortable flight. As we saw people that are interested right now in traveling are aware of this issue, yet nobody has really stepped up to do something about it. Obviously, this idea is not something I am committed to 100% but I do see an opportunity for a market that is hot having their wishes fulfilled. Service to be offered: My implementation would be to create an airline that competes with the current airlines that travel to South America. I am not sure now after the interviews if the low-cost or high-end airline is a better idea, this would have to go under extensive research in order to find which one would become more successful. But I pretend to offer services ...

7A - TESTING THE HYPOTHESIS, PART 1

Opportunity: Due to the expensive tickets to most of the cities in South America, I see an opportunity in opening a new airline with competitive prices in which it can create more competition to current airlines who fly from American cities to Latin American cities. The Who: Latin American people who live in the United States and want to go back home wither for work or holidays, and for American people to travel on competitive airfares to South American cities. The What: Prices are too expensive to travel at the moment, due to the manipulation of the prices of large airline alliances. The Why: Price manipulation is making it hard for people to travel for lower prices. Testing; The Who: Ask people that are interested in flying to Latin American cities for cheaper prices, have more flexibility in terms of the schedule of flights. Access to new routes which possibly before were not offered. So companies with Latin American presence is key as well and vice versa (So...

6A – IDENTIFYING OPPORTUNITIES IN ECONOMIC & REGULATORY TRENDS

1) Economic Trend: Trump Seeks New Fed Board Seats Source: Wall Street Journal -  https://www.wsj.com/articles/white-house-adviser-says-fed-board-nominees-should-support-easy-money-policies-11548375931 Economic Opportunity/Trend: I think this creates an opportunity for qualified Economist who want to fight to have a seat in the Federal Reserve Board. As President Donald Trump is seeking to fill upcoming two vacancies in the board. President Trump has been known that in the previous months has highly disagreed with the current Fed because of his constant rise in interest rates. Interest Group: Again, I believe highly qualified Economist that can be to President Trump liking would be ideal. Even though the current Fed was appointed by Trump, they have strongly disagreed on interest rates increase. So the upcoming seats I am sure must be someone close to the president that can have similar economic ideologies. Exploitability: The interest rates being rates are not a necessarily go...

5A - IDENTIFYING LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES

1) Title:   State senator calls for plastic bag, straw ban for businesses that sell take-out food Link:   https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/politics/fl-ne-nsf-plastic-straw-bill-introduced-20190124-story.html Summary : A law is being passed in Tallahassee to bank plastic bags and straws from restaurants, this law is not yet fully passed but it did pass the first step, the final bill will be voted at the end of February. The ban also set a fine for restaurants that violate this bill, $500 fine for the first time and $1000 for any subsequent violation. The article also mentions how cities in Broward county already banned straws and plastic bags, and cities like Hallandale and Fort Lauderdale are following the measures taken first by Delray Beach. What is the problem? The problem is that many restaurants will be forced to give other alternatives when it comes to plastic bags or straws. This will become an issue because the costs will change for many businesses, so for some, ...

4A – FORMING AN OPPORTUNITY BELIEF SUBMIT ASSIGNMENT

1)  I believe there is an opportunity for a low-cost airline to penetrate the Latin-American market, big airlines like American Airlines and Delta are the few American airlines that operate in the Latin-American market. Some Latin airlines include; Copa Airlines, LATAM, Avianca and Aerolineas Argentina. Most of these airlines are partnered with Delta and American Airlines. This creates kind of a monopoly in which they set their own prices. It is ridiculous to find $400 Round trip Miami-Madrid and a ticket from Miami to Santiago, Chile costs $1100. keeping in mind is about the same distance and length of the trip. 2)  The unmet need is that for travelers is much more expensive to get to South and Central America while reaching Europe or Asia is a lot cheaper. The need is for the demand of many Latin-American people that live in the United States or Canada, also for whoever pleases to visit Countries like Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Chile. I thi...
